Main objective of the project is to improve the CE regions' accessibility through air transport interconnectivity. The specific objectives comprise to identify existing travel demand, to justify financial regional support by Public Service Obligations, to analyze the passenger information quality for Public Transport Services (PTS) at airports and to improve the interconnectivity between air and public transport, to foster accessibility of airports through innovative bus concepts and improved rail access and to compile a policy resolution as a tool to promote public transport and its development at CE airports.
The objectives of the CHAMPIONS project have three dimensions:
By improving the long distance accessibility of the involved regions, the regional attraction for the business community, as well as for the tourist community shall be increased. As a result there shall be more flight connections and a better accessibility, leading to positive regional economic effects. A case study on "Regional Economic Justification of PSO" shall provide arguments to provide regional support for otherwise commercially non viable new routes to the benefit of regional accessibility. The core output "Air Accessibility Guide" shall summarize the procedures how to develop new flight connections.
The link between both, the air and the public transport will be an important issue within this project. The development of information infrastructure (Passenger Information Systems and Equipment) will be essential to achieve the full integration of national and regional markets as well as balanced and sustainable development.
